Lunar Gala — Anomie
SEP 2018 - MAR 2019
ROLE: BRAND, MOTION DESIGNER
Lunar Gala is a yearly student-run fashion show held at Carnegie Mellon University, which boasts 1400+ sales in tickets every year and stands as one of the biggest fashion shows in Pittsburgh. Working in a team of three designers under the motion team, I designed promotional videos and runway graphics for Lunar Gala 2019; I collaborated with brand, experience, web, print, production, and sound design teams to create a cohesive experience. The concept was anomie —a social condition defined by an uprooting or breakdown of any moral values, standards or guidance for individuals to follow.
Exploration
Given what we had from the branding team, we played around with simple animation techniques to capture the essence of what anomie meant. Visually, we interpreted it as dissolution and distortion. However, we liked the idea of creation through deconstruction — the use of repetition and displacement allows for visuals that "are not as they seem".
Line Videos
We applied the same methodology to each of the line videos. Each video was created by capturing and altering recorded footage from Google Earth - each location was hand-picked and chosen based on the line designer's inspirations and preferences. There were a total of 20 lines.
Downtime
Three visuals were produced for waiting periods throughout the show: before the show, during the show (intermission), and after the show.
Promotion and Dance
We created promotional videos as well as dance visuals; these are specifically the ones I produced.
